All the data is tracked automatically in Quicken. The only thing I have to do is tag which vehicle each transaction is for and Quicken guesses correctly most of the time. It just takes a few minutes to run a report.

Knowing the cost of operating a vehicle helps you make decisions. For example, I decided to buy plane tickets for Kris and I for $350 for instead of driving 800 miles because it's about the same price as driving (our most economical car is $0.43/mile). That saved Kris and I about 4 hours (8 hours combined) travel time...which was a lot more than I spent on getting this data.
